Glidox initiators are derived from the naturally occurring turpentine of pine trees, which is a by-product of the paper making industry.
Glidox 300 is a versatile high-performance polymerization initiator. A proprietary formulation of para-menthane and other terpene hydroperoxides, it can be used as an initiator in the manufacture of such polymers as vinyl, nitrile and styrene-butadiene rubber.
Glidox 500 contains PHP at an active hydroperoxide content of 50 to 55% by weight. It is an effective polymerization catalyst that can be used as an initiator in the manufacture of various polymers in emulsion Systems, including acrylonitrile-butadiene and styrene- butadiene copolymers and vinyl, nitrile and polyester resins.
Glidox initiators can be readily substituted for other peroxides in the emulsion polymerization process without extensive process modification or detriment to the polymer product. Often Glidox initiators may be used at lower dosage levels as compared to other initiators which will result in cost savings. An additional and key advantage of Glidox is the extended half-life at 130°C (25 hours for Glidox versus 12 hours for the 55% PMHP). This improvement in the half life is an indicator of relative storage stability at temperatures above the typical ambient (25°C).
